Deep
Relaxation Skills
One of the most
beneficial skills you can learn for your own physical, mental, and emotional
health and well-being is deep relaxation. This is a complete
physiological response that you can readily train yourself to produce
through breathing techniques, guided imagery and visualization,
self-hypnosis, and progressive muscle relaxation. As you can imagine, true deep relaxation
- the pure relaxation that heals your body, clears your mind, calms your
emotions, and renews your spirit - is more than just unwinding with a book
or in front of the television. Deep relaxation involves your full attention
in systematically relaxing every part of you, so that tension and stress are
discharged and released, and your whole body fully relaxes.
I have prepared these instructional audiotapes/CDs to blend the most effective
elements of:
- deep (abdominal) breathing to induce inner calm
- guided imagery to promote peacefulness and a sense of well-being
through visualizing serene scenes
- guided self-hypnosis to allow you to effectively release stress or
tension, and to deepen the positive benefits of mind/body
relaxation
- progressive muscle relaxation to systematically relax your entire
body, as effectively as massage.
Through
regular practicing of deep relaxation for at least 15-20 minutes, you can
reverse the negative impact of stress, allow your body and mind to recover
and heal, and promote an overall feeling of relaxation and well-being that
becomes your new “normal” way of coping and living. With practice over
time, the relaxation will spread to the rest of your daily living, and you
will feel more relaxed and less stressed throughout your day - with more
reserves for challenges and more energy for enjoying your life.
